Changes to consent for settlement consumption data
As part of a nationwide effort to support the UK’s Net Zero goals, the energy regulator Ofgem is introducing a new system called Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS). This will change the way suppliers like us collect and use your energy usage data – and it’s designed to help create a smarter, greener and more efficient energy system.
What is MHHS?
MHHS means that your energy supplier (that’s us!) can collect your electricity usage data every 30 minutes, instead of once a month or when you submit a reading.
This helps us better understand your usage and predict your energy needs more accurately. This means we can buy the right amount to make sure we’re meeting demand, rather than trying to estimate this based on your average usage.
What are the benefits of MHHS?
Moving to half-hourly data collection brings some important benefits – not just for energy suppliers, but for you and the planet too:
- Smarter predictions, less waste – By seeing your usage patterns more clearly, we can buy the right amount of energy to meet your needs – reducing waste and helping to keep costs down.
- Tailored products and services – With a clearer picture of how you use energy, we can create smarter, more personalised services to help you get the most from your energy.
- Help you make greener choices – Understanding when you use energy allows us to offer tools or advice that help you use less when demand (and cost) is highest – supporting your own sustainability goals.
- Supports a more reliable energy grid – With better forecasting across the industry, MHHS helps reduce pressure on the National Grid – helping to prevent outages and make the system more resilient for everyone.
You’ll need a Smart meter to access the benefits. Find out how to upgrade your meter(s) by clicking here.
