Sustainability that supports long-term business success
Sustainable Business Energy

What does sustainability mean for businesses?
Why sustainability?
Sustainability in business energy isn’t just about reducing carbon. It’s about making smarter energy decisions that protect operations, manage risk and strengthen long-term performance, while also benefiting the environment.

Manage long-term costs
Energy markets move quick. Adopting a sustainable approach is all about making smarter energy choices that protect operations from volatile markets, reduce cost, and give your business more control over finances.

Improve efficiency
Cutting unnecessary usage won’t just reduce environmental impact, but it’ll protect your margins too – it’ll makes day-to-day operations more effective without compromising output, and strengthens your operational resilience through the shifting energy landscape.

Meet ESG targets
Sustainability reporting frameworks require businesses to act, so increasing visibility over your environmental impact will help your business strengthen its ESG energy strategy, meet compliance requirements, and address rising Government targets.
Practical, fair and transparent
Our approach
Sustainable energy for businesses in the UK works best when goals are clear, measurable and realistic. We focus on honest information and action over headline claims, so businesses can become more sustainable with confidence.
Simple, clear information
We’ll never ask our business customers to become energy sustainability experts, that’s what we’re here for. At every opportunity, we’ll keep you up to date with our progress – our targets are defined, our outcomes are tracked, and if we say something, we mean it. Plus, we’re working on ways to provide monthly data to help you understand ways your business could be operating more sustainably, with clear, easy-to-understand, and actionable information. Watch this space!
Real data, not misleading labels
We don’t sell sustainability as a badge, or a misleading “green tariff”. The reality is, energy suppliers don’t control the energy mix in the National Grid, even if they claim they do. While some suppliers are greenwashing energy tariffs, we’re working on giving you the transparency to know exactly where your energy is coming from.

How Utilita measures sustainability progress
Our environmental commitments
Each year, we set defined sustainability goals and report against them transparently – giving our business customers complete visibility of our performance and our future targets.
Our Net Zero ambitions
In order to support the Government’s Net Zero by 2050 target, it’s important we create our own pathways, aligned to long-term reductions in carbon emissions. That’s why the target for Utilita’s own operations to be Net Zero is 2030, and we strive to be more sustainable each year.
Our achievements
We’ve surpassed our carbon reduction targets in the 2024-2025 financial year by 85% in Scope 1 and 4% in Scope 2 emissions. On top of that, we reduced our absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 26%, and achieved a 13% reduction in carbon intensity in Scope 3 compared to the baseline. To see our current progress, and our decarbonisation targets, visit our Live Carbon Dashboard.
Tracking progress at every step
We were the first energy supplier to publish a Live Carbon Dashboard in the domestic energy market, and we’re now trialling something similar for business customers, in the form of monthly data reports. The plan is to take the hard work out of reporting and offer personalised insights into how your electricity is being generated, and when it’s cleanest and greenest. We can’t change the grid mix, but we can be transparent about your energy.

Become a sustainability leader with solar panels for businesses
Energy Transition
The UK’s energy sector is changing, solar is at the forefront, and businesses have a central role to play. Generating your own clean, green electricity is one of the most effective sustainable energy solutions for businesses.
Making the switch to solar energy
Any practical changes to lower emissions will protect the planet and commercial performance, but the biggest difference maker is where our energy comes from – and we can help bridge that gap. By generating renewable energy on site using solar panels, your business will immediately and significantly reduce your Scope 2 carbon emissions – it’s the fastest way to reduce your carbon footprint, all while saving £££s in the process.
What are the benefits to your business?
With flexible payment options and no upfront cost options, going green doesn’t have to cost the world. Not only will solar panels for businesses help you cut your electricity bills by 40% on average each year, but they’ll help reduce your business’ carbon footprint. What’s even better, installing a full commercial solar battery storage system for your business means you can store excess energy for overnight operations, or sell back to the grid to see an even faster return on investment.
